During recent years, Estonian theatre directors have enthusiastically experimented with non-traditional locations and open-air performances. Summer productions in manor houses grounds, at picturesque river bends or in ancient castle ruins are now an established part of the Estonian cultural calendar. The photograph shows “Huck”, based on the book by Mark Twain, on the banks of the Emajõgi River in Tartu in 2001. The production was staged by the Emajõgi Summer Theatre.
