A view from the Haanja Upland towards Võru
Author(s): Mati Kose
Today, about half of the Haanja Upland is covered by forest. Almost all the forest types of Estonia are represented here, except alvar forests. The older forests mostly consist of rather tall fir trees. Large part of the soil is arable. Boreo-nemoral forests, typical of South-Estonian soils, have now only survived in river basins and on steep slopes of hills.
